Hood has some waves in it. Not peel. The rest of the car is flat. Help!

I finished this paint job about 2 weeks ago. Sanded the entire car from 1500-3000. I hit some trouble areas with 1000. I buffed, sealed, and waxed the car and it looks great. This UV clear is great stuff. I put 4 wet coats on my hood an it looks like its wavy. Its not peel. It looks almost like very large flat peel if that makes since. I think the coats were to wet to allow for the clear to level properly. To all my friends the car looks good, but I really want the hood to be as flat as the roof. I blocked it with a 3m foam sanding pad. Do i need to block it with something better?

here are pics.

you can see the texture at this angle...

I want it to look like this!!!!

this is urethane wave . your pushing high solids ahead of the pattern and after several coats this is what you get. one reason to do 3 coats then block flat with 400-600 the 2 coats. less thanewave to deal with. no foam pad will help this.

I followed all the flash times. I originally sprayed the hood with 3 coats of prospray base and 3 coats of UV clear. I got some peel because my regulator at the tank was set at 90 psi and I was not paying attention. I waited 2 days and blocked that peel out and put on 4 coats of UV clear. So there is plenty of clear to work with. How should I go about fixing this wave? The hood is the focal point of this car. It has got to look better!

I think ill probably stick to 1000 since the UV clear is really soft. Do you know of any good blocks you can suggest to me?

thanks!

Make sure your blocks are truly flat by sanding them. We put sticky sandpaper on a thick piece of glass to true our blocks. Also be sure to vary your technique by constantly changing the angle of each pass of sanding strokes. Use an "X" shape but the intersecting angle can vary from 15 to 75°. Try using your other hand once in a while because it will have a different technique than your dominant hand. You get the idea.

If it was JUST urethane wave, you would see it in other places. Since it's just in the hood, it is because the hood bulge represents an obstruction and it is limiting your technique, revealing overly repetitive motions or defects in the block.

By the way, I love your car!

I painted the hood separate. That is why it got urethane wave and the rest of the car didnt. It was super wavy before sanding and buffing. Now it is much better but still noticeable. I didnt know what it was until Shine informed me of it earlier. Thanks for the tip on truing up the sanding block. Do you guys recommend blocks like durablock with the sticky paper or a longer traditional block where the sand paper wraps around and is held by those spikes?

i use an old style rubber block with spikes . the thing is 1000 does not cut. it is finishing paper. the more passes you make the more the paper loosens and will suck into the wave. one pass with 600 will cut flatter than 20 passes with 1000.

you dont have to get crazy with the 600. wax and grease it ,hit it with 600 the do the finishing.

You have a lot of clear on the car. As suggested, hit it with some 600. Just keep away from the edges. It would be very difficult to solve your problem with 1000. If it is shiny when you start, you will be able to see the wave being blocked out as you go. When most of the shine is gone, then switch to 800, then 1000 and so on.
