Hood Skins Gap

So on my Thunderbird hood, there was a material that was stapled between the two skins. That material is long gone. There is no way to put new material in there since the staples are in place, and I am not removing them. Has anyone used a product that was in like a caulk gun that could be used? The gaps can be as much as 1/8" wide. I would want it to be paintable so I can put it in ahead of time.
