How Long Before Wax on Universal Clear

Hiya Folks,
I'm very excited to say I'm nearing the end of my project! The compounding and polishing has been by and large the most difficult part of this project but I'm just about there. As well, the weather is turning colder and my wife is dropping hints about getting her car into the garage. So, before I roll this thing out into the elements I was looking to put wax on it. I cleared it in mid-August and have been slowly getting it sanded, compounded, and polished since then (weekend warrior so it's been taking a while). What is the recommended timeframe before wax on Universal Clear? I'm planning on using Autoglym HD wax on it. I plan to ultimately get a cover for it as this will sit outside but will have to get a custom one made and I won't have the funds for this until at least spring time.
Cheers,
cc

I have bad news for you. I don't believe in waxing a car. Don't want to apply anything that may hurt the finish. Also I don't recommend using a car cover. If anyone in your area has one of those feline animals (CATS), they will find your car and climb on it. The cover will slide when the cat climbs on it and the claws come out scratching the finish.

Thanks. But you didn't answer my question. By the way, why don't you like wax on a finish? As for a cover, I need something over it as the sun here eats clear for lunch (we have like the highest UV index in the country) and I don't have the time/$$ at the moment to build another garage.
Cheers,

If car as not been outside waxing is a big risk.
If has been driven a good amount, wait three months, since paint.
Not driven much I would not wax at all.

If you must wax use ONLY glaze or a Canuba base wax, anything else could cause delamination down the road.

canuba wax is all i use. and i absolutely hate car covers outside and would never put one on a fresh job.. for what a good one cost you could buy a tarp garage for it. car covers are for inside a controlled area. they are right. first cat that mounts it will claw the heck out of it. i dont think the sun is going to eat up the uv clear any time soon. my 54 truck will spend the majority of time setting outside and will only have canuba wax on it.

Barry, why is this? what causes it to do so?

I think Barry suggests this because some of the polymer type waxes might actually seal the surface well enough that any trapped solvents might not be able to escape causing compromized adhesion between the base and clear when the clear eventually fully cures. I've seen people have some serious gloss dieback when waxing to soon. I do like a quality wax for a few reasons: keeps the surface easy to clean, makes the surface slick for better scratch resistance.

Exactly right!
As a matter of fact!!, In last week I had a call from a shop up by Bob, he painted a car all over about 8 years ago and the guy wanted to put together himself, make a long story short, car was never out and he waxed it years back, now he brings the car back to the shop with paint bubbles all over, ins spots the PG clear is coming off the base and in other spots the PG base is coming off the primer.

Like I told the shop, if he works on this car it needs seven full days of sunlight first, as the worst is yet to come. The sun and UV's will really make it pop.
Only reason it lasted this long was it was never outside.
