How should the inside of fenders be finished?

I'm about ready to spray two more coats of epoxy on the inside of the front fenders. The inside of the fenders where media blasted and two heavy coats of spi epoxy applied. I've sanded again but, am confused on how to proceed from here. It won't get final paint until next year.

I'm assuming if I spray bc/cc, I'll have to re-sand with the proper grits.

What other options, if any, do I have?

Thank you,

I just thought of this.......can I scuff the cured epoxy with a red or gray scotchbrite pad and either bc/cc, or clear just the epoxy?

What is the end result you want?
Black semi-gloss? Then leave in epoxy. It is a great topcoat if not continously exposed to UV.
Just need 4 plus hours induction time.
That is what I'm doing on firewall, inner fenders and underhood.

When I did my inner fenders I sprayed 2 coats black epoxy and then spreyed in bedliner for sound supression

Those Mopars don’t have inner fenders if I remember right so I would apply bedliner to absorb impact from stones thrown up by the tires.

I was on the fence on what to do because I had read either on SPI, or somewhere else, that painting the finished coat on the inside of a fender, doesn't tell lies, and products like Bedliner / Raptor Liner hide the truth about the condition of the panel. It appears from the replies that raptor liner should be used, and from what Don stated, would help protect the fenders from rock chips etc.

I see members like Mopar Jim spraying body color on the inside of the fenders and am wondering how they where prepped for final paint.

Question..............is there any preparation needed to apply Raptor, and can it be sprayed at anytime outside of the 14 day epoxy window?

Thank you,

Thank you,
Prep for Raptor is like any urethane paint (Raptor is urethane based.)
180 scuff outside of the window will work just fine.
As with any paint over epoxy. 180 scuff outside the window gives you mechanical bond.
Covering inside the window gives you chemical bond. Shoot epoxy, wait 48 hours, scuff with 180 and you get both.

At least that is how I understand it.

Thanks Dean. I looked up the technical data sheet on Raptor liner, and you are correct. That is how to prep for Raptor Liner.

I've decided to only use the Raptor Liner on the vertical metal splash shield that attaches to the fender and protects the door from water, rocks, and road trash. I will also use it on the inside of the fender at the top. The side of the inner fender will be finished with bc/cc.

I'm doing it that way so nobody will ever question if I used the Raptor Liner to hide damaged metal, and I don't see rocks or road trash damaging the sides of the fender.

I am however going to use the Raptor Liner for the rear wheel tubs. The factory had undercoating in there so, it wouldn't be questioned.

Thanks Dean.

I've sprayed raptor a few times now from complete floor pans, trunk pan, wheel wells, and inner fenders. That stuff sticks like concrete I dont see it flaking off at all. I mean, if you took a hammer and chisel yeah it will. But who does that. I've sprayed it within the epoxy re coat window, and outside the window with and without sanding and noticed zero difference. The only thing I don't like is that it really stinks. I like that it is tintable and all u do is mix 3 oz of basecoat per jug. At first we would get basecoat without binder, but as of late, I don't think that matters much either. Just pour the basecoat in the jug, drop an old nut in there and shake it like a rattle can . And it's ready to go I spray it at like 40-45psi with the gun they supply. You ca. Reduce it and spray it put a 1.8 for less texture. One thing I will say is that u can't tint the raptor , black. It comes out grey. I ran out of black raptor and had some tintable, and tried to tint it with black base and it did not match the black raptor. Here is some tinted grey and tinted yellow

@Barry talked me into only doing the wheel wells for the reasons you state. Glad he did.
My underside has lots of repairs, but all good and I have nothing to hide.
