I will be painting my 94 Jag xjs. I would like to keep the process as simple as possible. The original paint is ok except for peeling on the hood and on one of the fenders. I plan on sanding these areas down to the original primer.
I received an email from Andy at sPI saying that since this will be a sand and shoot that I just need to sand it, seal with an epoxy sealer, then bc and clear. I am heeding his advice but I am unsure as to how to deal with the few dings and chips on the car.
If I sand the dings and chips down to the metal and fill with a filler and glaze, it will still have to adhere to the old lacquer paint on the feather edges...
Basically my question is, will I be better off putting a coat of epoxy down before putting the filler and glaze down or are there fillers/ glaze that will stick to the old lacquer. I want to keep cost down as much as possible so I would rather not have to epoxy prime before filling (I have two 1.4 guns and do not want to purchase any more tips, etc.). I plan on purchasing just enough epoxy to seal the car before paint and this will be reduced so I am guessing the 1.4 tip will work.
