i have a business tip for you. if you want to backlog into oblivion just say your going to retire. i tried it . i had planned on retiring once the 56 and my truck left . should have kept my mouth shut . i'll be lucky if i can retire year after next . :(

hahahah. just do it. it will always be that way shine. at some point you just gotta hurt some feelings and do what you gotta do.

yeah i know. 2 jobs are for old customers . 2 are vettes . one is a restomod build the other is a ncrs job. dont think i will take it. there is no satisfaction for me on one of those builds.

well i will have to do something one of these days. between the shop and the land i stay busy. i would prefer to just raise beef and take care of my gardens. but with a 35 year customer base it is hard. just too damn slow now days.

I'm working on a possible partial retirement from the shop as well, like you, when the time is right I will probably have a hard time walking out.. I'm looking for a slow transition though so all is good..

Do you sell beef then?

not much. i only have 40 acres . fatten a few bulls then sell and eat them. keep the heifers. limited on the number especially in the drought.

Got to do whats right for you in the end. It seems like the biggest hurdle is building the customer base that fits your taste so I totally get the difficulty your having, I believe I have the greatest customers out there but I think most people would understand if not well probably wouldn't want their work anyhow.

to be honest i am just tired of building " their " car. the latest one will make around 38 complete builds i have done .

You 'quit', You die.
Period.
Sounds like it's 'time' to build Yours.
I still got my 2 in the back collecting Value just sitting because They don't make them anymore and 'are what they are' so,I'll get around 'tuit, someday.

i can retire from building but the farm never sleeps. too far from pasture to boulevard . most of my builds have been early streetrods. too much damage too many part. will just do paint jobs that i will enjoy . no more body work. but then i will always do a vette.

Yup.
I will not do another complete vehicle. But. I never say never depending ON the 'challenge' OF.
Man,I still See Billy G. and the inspiration OF the TASK of Inspiration because these kids have so much More 'information' than we had available and I just hope my G'kids will ask me OF,

Care to know how what they do?
Yes,Pawpa,We do.....
:) That is 'what' I'm waiting for....

Well, I retired from my "real" job in 2010. I started working on my '69 Corvette in August 2008. Finally painted it 2 weeks ago, still have to finish colorsanding then buff. In between, last year and the year before preped and painted my '67 Corvette. I've had both of these cars since the early and mid 70's. I give you pros alot of credit for what you do. IT IS A LOT OF WORK.

Shine when you do great work, that is what happens!

Wednesday bs'ed with a shop in Florida for an hour had not talked to in a couple of years, had an issue with a hood, I told him how to correct it with two days in sun or infrared lamp for 60 minutes, he said he would rather sand down to base, re-base as he is so backed up, he could not afford the two days in sun.
All word of mouth and he said he turns more business away for different reasons, then he takes in.
Like he said, charge what you are worth and send the cheapies down the road.

strange aint it . 2 weeks after that post i was in surgery to remove half a lung . i'm just now finishing all the work i had started then. 2 frame offs that were in the beginning stage.
between the shop and the farm there is just more than i can get done now days. there will be no more builds . i may do a little paint work but likely stick to vettes. i'm tired of rust and dents.
