Ignorant question about cleaners?

I have a couple gallons of 99% isopropyl alcohol just sitiing around. Can it be used to clean off finger prints etc, like I would normally do with the SPI waterbased cleaner? I know you can't use the waterbased cleaner on bare filler, but would this be ok on paint and epoxy? Maybe not strong enough as the 700-1 contains acetone and ammonia. Would this alcohol be a problem for painting over? Maybe not worth the risk.

I use alcohol to wipe overspray off my glasses and to clean electronic parts, that's as far as my knowledge goes.

I'm confident the IPA would evaporate and not cause issues, but I don't know if it would clean as well as the solvent WG remover.
Since I don't know, I'm happy to spend $42.85 for a gallon of the right stuff and be sure it will work correctly.

Paint failure is the stuff of my nightmares and I'll avoid it at all costs.

I used Isopropyl alcohol when I first started out and you have to be sure to wipe it off before it dries.
As for the 700 it is strong stuff and I found out the hard way it will wipe fresh paint right off the panel. Rather than take the risk, I now stick with the 710 solvent based Wax and Grease Remover. Again, spray it on and wipe it off before it dries.

You need to test it on some junk sprayouts. First....
I use the 90% to thin, clean Tamiya enamel paints for my airbrush's and was using a pointed Qtip to clean some mistakes off and it completely removed the dried SPI Black base right off adjoining it.
So it's not "welcome" anymore on my projects as a cleaner.
Think I use to mix it like 50/50 for Clear coat wipe down long ago because it came to mind when I read your post.
I just stick with mineral spirits or 710 and leave the 700 for anything Before paint.

The original 700 started off IP alcohol-based, and then the EPA had an issue with it. Barry had told me it could remove about 3x the contaminants as the 710 in a single pass. However as stated above only solvent (naptha) based 710 should be used over base coat, if anything must be used at all.

The only problem with just alcohol is it drys too fast to be effective; add water as a retarder.
700 will do in one wipe; depending on the contaminants, that will take 4 to 8 wipes of 710.
Bare metal is always 700.

I'll probably get the crazy eye for this, but I've been mixing the 700/710 for the initial cleaning then use them separately for the other steps. I think it works really well.

I never thought about this but im trying it today as I need to fix an employes sons honda.

Im seeing a new product, i like it.

We use a lot of 700. 710 is for stuff like bare base coat, road tar, and adhesive residue.
700 cleans better, imo, especially bare metal.

I think we all agree that 700 should be kept away from base coat and even very fresh urethane, but once urethane is no longer "printing" it too can withstand 700 if necessary, jmho.

I tried a 50/50 mix seemed not to clean the metal as well, going by the feel of the metal when dry.
I went over again with 700, and it felt the way im use to.
Not sure where this would fit in except to make the 700 dry faster.
Always worth a try, so thanks for the idea!

Well, dang! Do I still get the Bentley? Maybe I wasn't clear. I like it for cleaning before I start any repairs. Then, use them separately there on out.
