Intercoat clear and HOK Candy Concentrate How many coats?

This is my first time posting and have been reading this forum top to bottom, I have been working on a 54 Chevy truck for the past five years and I am getting close to putting some color on it, I opted to go all epoxy Primer rather than sandwich 2k and epoxy. On the top of the cab cab I want to shoot a HOK -----@--------- silver base and then shoot silver metal flake various sizes using SPI Intercoat clear, top coat with SPI Universal Clear until the flake is buried and sand smooth once cured. I was then going to mix HOK kandy Concentrate with SPI Intercoat clear until I reached the desired shade. Is the use of the SPI Intercoat clear and Kandy concentrate acceptable as the HOK tech sheet says no more than 3 coats using thier Intercoat clear I only want to do this once any help would be greatly appreciated  Cab in primer 001.jpg

I've used as many as 7 coats of SPI intercoat reduced 150%, I think you might have some trouble with the larger flake in intercoat-I've never tried it. Jim C might have some good suggestions for a proceedure. Make sure you activate the intercoat. HOK Kandy concentrate works great in SPI intercoat.

yes i candy that way all the time. the spi intercoat works really well. always put some activator in it when doing alot of coats like that. as for how much, well that a good one and has alot of variables especially color. some colors are easy to spray and some are really difficult. the more difficult the more you need to weaken the color concentration so you reach your desired color with more coats. you will have a less blotchy job in the end. second thing....if i was doing it i would not go over silver. i would mix a base color just a shade or two lighter than the final candy color i was going to shoot, spray the silver flake over that then you will need far less candy over everything to reach your desired color and you will have a less blotchy job in the end. another plus is your flake will pop and stand out a little more.

Thanks for the help when I get it done I will post some pictures, oh did I mention I hate block sanding

OK Jim C now you've piqued my curiosity what colors of candy are the easiest and what colors are more difficult
