90% of cracks are due to the primer being too brittle.

My guess is he is saying to use SPI epoxy :)

I would disagree unless we are talking about urethane bumpers.

All base and primer cracking I have seen has been piling on with lots of trapped solvents.

No he wasn't being specific about substrate.

You can ff to 7:45 to skip a lot of the bs. He makes the statement around 8:36

He brought up flexibility and bumpers....

Sounds like 5 Star Xtreme epoxy/hybrid.

We must be hearing it differently.
I heard him say it can be used over galvanized, aluminium, plastics, and of course steel, then his next statement was the 90% failure topic. Which he followed up with 10 mil thickness and filler bleed through.

I am interested in Barry's opinion after he hears Jon's speel, aka sales pitch.

Sorry, but I have heard enough from this guy since Valspar bought him and he ended up an employee, too know, I don't care about anything he has to say, nor put much stock in it.

Very interested in what some of the basic two stage color formulas look like.

ospho , holdtite , nason , infomercials . this is the exact crap that destroyed some other sites. hr.com got just what it deserved when it let posers and fern eaters take over. i want to see this site stay focused on professional painting. snake oils do not belong here.

I agree...he sold out...his right and that's business...but he has also sold out on the industry he helped change a little by his passion...2 payoffs in this world at opposite ends of the spectrum....passion and money....just say'n

We must have. Ck round about 8:15 on plastic parts (bumpers) and 8:25 on flexible/brittle. I agree on the snake oil.
I don't care much for the epoxy hybrids myself....

One can only speculate but I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't making very much or any money at all with HOK....Selling to Valspar was a way to secure his future.

In my business, that is bicycle manufacturing, we joke that the big payday is when one of the heavies in our business finally buys you out. That is the only time anyone makes any money.

I don't know.. I can see both sides of that coin.

he is HOK . i'm sure he had to agree to be a spokesman when he sold. but with valspar owning it sooner or later it will drop in quality .

Shine and others, I did not post the video originally because I thought someone might take it this way.

I have no interest in his primer.

I just found his crack failure statement interesting.

I now have Barry's hackles up because I posted this and then said I would like to hear his idea on the 90% failure rate statement, which he said he did not agree with.

I guess I am a stupid sum biatch for asking questions and wanting to learn.

read my post again. it has nothing to do with hok or your video. but rather the other stuff that is finding it's way here. i consider you a friend and meant you no harm........

I hope the color line is killer and they hang in there, I'll stick with the SPI primers and clears though. Never cared for the epoxy hybrids that much, seen some heavy shrinkage with some, durability (chip resistance) wasn't that good, but corrosion resistance was better than a urethane though.

Bob I didn't like the way they sanded and the shrinkage I got. Hand sanding dry could be a booger.
