Limco supreme plus base coat

I'm interested in doing a complete color change on my mini cooper. I know that limco is the BASF budget line but the difference in price between that and RM Diamont is pretty significant. A gallon of limco is $181 vs $514 for Diamont and $730 for glasurit. Is the quality level really that large or do they inflate the price because of marketing and sponsoring? I want the paint job to last but I doubt I will have this car forever. Has anyone used limco supreme plus base coat? Thoughts?

I used Limco Supreme Plus on this Jeep. Was powder blue when I got it.
Seems to cover well and is pretty easy to spray. That being said, I prefer Pro Spray's quality for most non-show cars.

The overall consensus on pro spray seems to be that it's good. But this thread has me concerned about using it. I don't want to go through all the trouble of prepping a car and then have the paint start peeling off.

I have used Pro Spray on a number of projects over the years and never had an issue like the one in that thread.
I used RM Diamont on my R/T and it is a high quality paint but you pay for it.
Decided to try the Limco Supreme Plus on the Jeep to save money.
This part is also in Limco Supreme Plus and was an attempt to color match to the piece of metal shown:

Be sure to read that thread to the very end (especially Barry's theory). Using one inconclusive thread to make your decision might not be the best method. I bet you could find a thread like that for just about every product made, top of the line to the bottom.

well said ray and total truth. this is the internet and youll find something bad about anything if you look hard enough. pro spray is a good system. far better than limco. i have used alot of limco in the past on certain things because i was a diamont shop and being basf it was just convenient. i can say it did get the job done but of all the econo lines i have ever used limco was my least favorite. there are economy lines out there which are much better. is basf the only brand you have access to?

The only auto paint place in my area that I know of carries BASF. Unless there is somewhere online to order other brands? I got a quote from Chad for pro-spray. I know if you look hard enough you can likely find good and bad things about any product online.

All I will say on this, is of all the problem base calls I get, the Limco is number one by far. Fortunately not many people use it or have access to it but they seem to be stong in VA and WV.

That's good to know Barry. I have only used it twice and did notice it puts a lot of colored dust in the air. :)
There is another jobber in town that carries Wanda but the guy is a real jerk and I don't like having to buy anything from him.

If I was stuck with BASF, there would be no question in my mind what to use, and that is Glasurit 55 line. A few hundred bucks extra is nothing compared to the the time and effort it takes to paint a whole car.

Second on the Glasurit 55… best base I have ever sprayed hands down. If it is really too expensive, go with the pro spray. The medium solids is a 1:1 and actually sprays really nice. This 55 is all Glasurit and SPI Universal. The 2 quarts of Glasurit coral base cost more than all the spi black base, primer, and Universal! 10462888_670444789715610_6303698725024824337_n.jpg
