Has anyone used the 3M HG14 Accuspray with disposeable automizing heads? Its supposed to be a great gun for spraying heavy bodied primers and undercoatings.

I have the 3M Accuspray with both the 1.8 and 1.4 tips. The 1.8 tip will lay primer fine with very little over spray. I received it while in tech school and both of my instructors who have been spraying since the 70's couldn't believe how little the over spray was. Each went and purchased one for their home shop. I played with the 1.4 tip and it can lay a solid base, but don't expect it to do anything with pearls or metallic. It just can't atomize like a SATA or IWATA.

My guns that I use are the purple Northern Tool gun that Barry recommends for epoxy, it sprays it nicely. I then use the Accuspray for normal primer. Sata 4000 BRP for base and clear. Hope that helps.

No problem. Here is a picture of the deck lid I messed with with the gun and the 1.4 tip. I spray a 50% overlap and as you can see, especially in the pearl, it just didn't atomize it. I went to 75% overlap halfway through the pearl panel to see if it'd make a difference and it did a little bit but you'd really have to play with this gun and waste materials to get it to work. Same with the metallic blue. Both were on the black base which it laid it fine, there is some tape tracking and solvent pop because I sprayed all the coats and clears in 45 minutes. Just wanted to see how it laid down and didn't care about final results. Clear was okay, but nothing like my SATA. Cool thing about a tech school is you can use their booth, parts and materials to see what works. Don't worry about the droplets, that happens when you don't double check your PPS cup before you tilt and spray.
