Has anyone used any Martin Senour or Sherwin Williams base with the Universal Clear?
If so how is it holding up?
I have tried a search and didn't get any hits.

Yes, it holds up quite well. I think Euro works better with it, though. But if you use proper procedures there is no reason why UC can't be used.

The biggest factors are proper base coat reducer selection, and extended flash times between all operations.

I did a Challenger that way several years ago, and it has head up just fine. The only issue I had was fish-eyes in the base. Had not had that problem in about 15 years, and not had it again since. I think it was simply that I was shooting a MOPAR.

I used universal clear over ultra 7000 base a few diferent times and yet to have any issues. Actually just did a bumper job the other day.

extended flash time just for the sherwin williams or does that go for all paint company's? On second thought the bumper job I spoke of in my last post already got two stone chips on it. It was a rear bumper and it chipped right on the edge where it wraps around the quarter. Granted this is a very chip proned area but it just seems like it sholdnt have chipped so easily. The base chipped off the epoxy. I shot two coats epoxy, waited a few hours then based waited a few more hours then three coats of universal.

I don't think flash times are the cause of the chip problem. More likely cause would be reducer and activator selection for the base.

Well I used their RHF75 stabilizer which apperently has an activator already built in.

You are right that RHF75 has a small amount of activator.

I don't know why you had a problem, I have not experienced easy chipping of Ultra on top of epoxy, exactly the opposite in fact.

Maybe it was solvent trapping, the only thing that makes any sense to me.

One thing I have never tried is applying base directly over 2 coats of epoxy on the same day.

I went in work early that day around 6am, shot the first coat then around two hours later shot the second. It was around lunch time I sprayed the base, took an hour for three coats maybe four. Then after work that day I cleared it. I probably shouldn't have based in the same day.
