Matte Black

Comments on using and how flat is SPI Matte Black? Think about interior dash/doghouse/steering column. I would hate to spend 300 on a gallon and not like it.... Much cheaper to get some SEM hot rod black to test but that is about 2x the cost in the long run to the SPI black....

You can tune the flatness with how much activator you use, but unless you have some old stock, matte black from SPI is discontinued.

All is the same with activator 8:1, 6:1.
4.1 is semi-gloss.
3:1 is glossier

Around a year ago I added two Nano's
To make it a lot stronger.

We discontinued the matt clear as
comments were too glossy at 4.1 or not glossy enough and volume did not justify us having 3 part numbers for that product.

When SPI discontinued the matt black I went with XL Hotrod. The SEM hotrod black is just to damn expensive.

Yeah, it's back. It's the only product of its kind I want to use. I've never been able to make it stripe, it's not perfectly flat but that means it is strong and won't get screwed up by cleaning it. I shot a Fiero in it once for a guy and the idiot put wax on it, but I told him to clean it off with charcoal lighter fluid and it was fine later.

I had some issues spraying this. In retrospect, I think I sprayed at way too low of a pressure and too thick. I ended up with some solvent pop. Do you spray as is with no reducer? Someone I know suggested I try 4:1:1, but I would think that would kill the small amount of gloss it does have.
