Maximum time for plastic masking

Two nights ago I sprayed a 70 truck cab with red single stage. I set it out in the sun yesterday for several hrs.

Today I need to spray the roof and rear pillar area white. I need to tape it off, mask it, clean it, seal it, seam seal gutters (is paintable after 30 minutes) and spray 4 coats. Then remove tape and masking. I'll be masking off the rest of the cab with corona plastic.

I figure it could take up to 5 hr to do all this, which includes wait time between sealer, gutter sealer, and SS. Is that length of time adequate for the plastic over the new paint (red) without ghosting it? I'll reduce epoxy 25% to seal.

I have a rule of thumb that literally involves pressing a thumb into the paint (not your nail). Wipe off the fingerprint and look for an indention in the paint. If it's not "printing," it is safe to mask. The cool thing is that if it is printing, the print will eventually disappear.

And in doing so the plastic won’t cause ghosting?

Yeah, the most important thing is for there to be no moisture between the plastic and the paint, that WILL ruin your day. Also as Don says, no sun on the masked vehicle.

Would there be any advantage to blowing air across the panel to help dissipate any moisture just prior to putting the plastic on?

all of my work is covered by the boat company on the production line with 3m dirt trap fabric for spray booths. its low tack and no residue. they cover it 10-12 hrs after i clear. 9 mos a year i am using speed clear 4 coats. the 3 hot months i use universal. it covered for about 8 weeks and always leaves a print in the clear. bring the boat out in the sun for an hour, let it get hot and it all disappears. the clear springs right back

Well, there just can't be any liquid water on the surface of the paint, it must be removed by any means necessary.
