mixing single stage in with MS clear

Can PPG Concept be mixed in with MS clear at 75/25 followed by straight clear on the final two coats of a complete repsray?

Concept works well with Universal, Barry would know if there's anything different with MS that might make it incompatible. I'd bet it would work just fine, if you're worried you could do some testing to verify how well the cure is. My experience with Concept and Universal has been nothing but positive, looks better, cures well, and buffs a whole bunch better.

Is the intent to get more gloss? I would think adding 25% MS to the Concept would reduce its color build, take more coats to get the same amount of color onto the panel.

The you say add 2 straight coats of MS.

I would just spray the Concept as is, then top coat it with the MS.
I can see no advantage to your idea, and I see possible problems, and either way more work.

The intent is to achieve a greater depth to the color. I know that bc/cc is a better choice, but this is a friends project that he has already purchased material for. The problem is that he has no experience in bodywork, and asked me after the fact to lend him a hand. The vehicle will be cut and buffed, so I'm not really concered with the amount of work involved. I just want to help him take his truck to the next level and be able to maintain the integrity of the finish for years to come. He does drive it almost everyday (during nice weather), and with that I think the daily abuse would take it's toll on straight single stage(swirl marks, fine scratches, and the sort) over time. The color is a straight red so would 2 coats of straight concept then 75/25, 50/50, followed by 2 coats of the clear be acceptable. I realize that the paint thickness might be a concern at that point. I have stripped the truck to bare tin, repaired everything that needed attention, and will have it read for paint by next weekend.

From talking with Barry I think that if you were using Universal the film build wouldn't be an issue, I have never asked about building that much MS.

I think you are on a better track getting hiding with the straight Concept, then reducing with clear.

That is similar to what I did many years ago on a motorcycle with black lacquer. It made the black more of a smoky appearance.

There are guys on here far more knowledgeable than I that can tell you how to get more depth.

Better just to apply the Concept color, then shoot the MS on top after an appropriate wait time. Leaving compatibility issues aside, red can have coverage issues, and adding clear will not help. I think Barry will need to have the final word on this.

I agree, I wasn't suggesting the 2 products were a compatible mix, just my experiance with reducing color with clear. The black looked smokey, not deep like when you run a water hose over it.

On light/bright colors the 50/50 deal will give more glow in direct sunlight and more depth out of direct light, do some test panels and you'll see. Some of the oem tri-stage solid colors offer similar results.
