My '55 Belair Hardtop

I'm basically an amateur painter. Have maybe a dozen over the years in my garage with an old Craftsman one horse compressor. Anyway the ladt time I painted my '55 was in 1991. The lighter blue I did in Dupont lacquer back then with 3 coats of clear lacquer over it. Well after about 10 year or so it started cracking here and there. So last May I decided to take the lighter blue down to bare metal and start from scratch. I had learned about the SPI products and decided to use the epoxy primer as well as the high build 2K primer. Very pleased with both those products. Ended up calling Barry several times and getting excellent advice. What a great guy to talk to. I learned a ton from him. I would have gotten the SPI Universal clear but already had purchased PPG Deltron DCU 2021. Finally finished painting May of this year after all the hours and hours of prep work. And I must say I am quite pleased with how it came out. Hardly any dust and NO BUGS !!

I know this is an older thread, but maybe you will see and answer. Im wondering what color, brand, etc of the darker blue on your car? Its a great looking car! Im eventually going to paint my Chevelle and am interested in dark shades of blue, like yours , that dont have a purpleish tint. Thanks!

OP may not answer , but you can go to any jobber and look at color chip charts. There are several paint chip websites also but names escape me at present moment. The jobber can , if they have any amount of time mixing paint , can probably give you several options for a color. That's where I would start. I'm almost sure I've seen this car on FB somewhere. Probably in someone's car show pics. It's a good color combination.

Paintref.com is a pretty good site. You can view multiple manufacturers chip books as well as most of the colors are linked to a google search.

Thank you, and yes, I know I can look at chips, but that doesnt compare to seeing the vehicle already painted. And to be honest, sometimes colors online are different than in person. I have 4 House of Kolors paint chip books from years ago with all of their colors on different base colors as well.
But again , seeing the color on a larger scale sometimes doesnt look as good as you thought. Or vice versa. Thanks!!

I know I've gotten a small amount mixed and done a spray out to check to see if it matches anything close to what I need. Difficult to see on screen but start with viper blue. That was a popular color on hot rods for a while.

GM Bridge Hampton Blue Metallic might be a shade lighter than the dark color on the 55.
I saw it on a 70 Corvette at a show and it looked fantastic, so fantastic my wife remembered the name 10 years later and wants me to paint mine that color. YMMV
