My one SPI complaint

For something that should be trivial, the packaging peanuts cause me a lot of grief.

Where I live we have to recycle, we get one "toter" (big plastic can on wheels)a week to fill with trash so it pretty much means you need to recycle what you can as that goes in it's own toter.

The peanuts are not recyclable, so this means I can't just take the SPI out of the box and leave the peanuts in there. I need to take the peanuts out, put them in plastic bags to throw out. So in addition to filling up valuable space in the garbage toter, they are an unbelievable pain in the but to get out of the box and into bags. They get some sort of static charge and want to stick to the box, then to my hand. I swear it seems like it took me about half an hour to get my last load of stuff out of the box and to get all the packaging in the trash..
I much prefer those plastic bags filled with air, pop them and they take up no space when you get rid of them.

Ok, sorry for the rant...

Hear that all the time, so don't feel bad.

We go to great pains too stay certified, One 40 hour class a year so we can ship this hazardous stuff to you with no hazardous charges. and there are only so many ways to do it and the peanuts with the 1 inch Styrofoam on the bottom is the main way.

Dump the peanuts in your dirty thinner can and they will disappear like magic.

You all hate em and so do I!
This picture I just took, is a 3-4 day supply, we have a full truck load on the way, each bag is about 6' tall, I feel your pain as it is a PIA for us too.

nice clock. LOL!

It is my favorite and free from a bigwig from that company!!

I bet that would be a firing offense if they found out who.

The plastic peanuts can be loaded in a bag and dropped off at any shipping store like UPS-they gladly take them. The shredded paper was nice as I just tossed it in the wood fired boiler or burn barrel.

I don't like the peanuts either, but a little box to deal with is nothing... A few years ago, while out to lunch with my buddy, I put some tobasco sauce in his tea. To pay me back he goes to the UPS store, gets two 40 lb bags of peanuts, and fills my mustang up from the floorboard to about six inches below the headliner! At least he and his wife came over to help me clean them out after I found it. But I still have one blow out from somewhere every so often if I ride with the windows down.

Its like surgery in my garage when I open up an SPI package. Slow and steady removing the contents and then I tape that box up and put it at the curb.

I found if I take a trash bag and hold it around the open box and tip it over the edge of a table, I can catch the peanuts as they fall out. I get about half of them out and then take out the cans of goodies. Then I pour the rest into the garbage bag. There are always some stragglers, but I can 95% of them into the bag this way.

I know I'll get crap for this, but I cut the boxes up and use for mixing filler. I only use the inside of the box, I figure cardboard from a paint maunfacturer should be pretty contaminent free.

I hate them so bad that I will not take the boxes home to my shop. I open boxes at my business, slip items out as careful as possible & blow cans off with air hose, before putting in truck. I would like to slip in to that office & cut open all of those bags, that would be a hell of a mess, Barry would borrow Bubba & Earl, (or whoever they were), from Shine & take a hit out on me. Good tip about putting in thinner can, wonder how long it would take to get them in the little spout hole on 5 gal. can.

Just mist a little water out of a water bottle and they come out of the box great....................or we can ship them back to Barry

Holy crap that's a lot of peanuts.. When is the SPI peanut party? There has to be some nice southern gals to partake in such a party!!

Back when I was in HS, rolling/toilet papering houses was something to do at 2am on a weekend and we rolled this one buddy of ours house and dumped about 10 garbage bags of Styrofoam peanuts in his front yard. :)

Lol. seems like a waste of gas. that stuff is expensive ya know??

Unless of course you are going to launch it.. well then... It's well worth it. haha.

i just put the box in a black garbage bag open it up and take the paint out and then break up the box inside the bag and leave it
