Mythbusters tested bedliner to see if it is blast proof. It withstood C4 at close range. Sounds like Barry needs to get a military contract.

I saw a TLC or Discovery show a couple of years ago that built a block wall and a small building the set off a bomb to test a bedliner. It held the building together but the structure itself was toast. Interesting idea. Could you make a spray-able bedliner that could make a conventional woodframe or block wall bullet resistant? Say anything up to 30-06? What do you think Barry?

I'll chime in here. Although I'm a novice body guy, I was a Green Beret and demo guy on the team. C4 is a cutting explosive (military term is M112). It has a high RE factor. RE factors mean "relative explosiveness" and realitive to what is TNT. TNT is a 1 on the scale and is the base line. C4 is a 1.34. Anything higher than a 1 is used for cutting, lower is used for pushing. Dynamite makes big holes in the ground, it has a lower explosive rate, so its used to push rock and earth. C4 can cut through steel but if you put it on the ground as say a 1 lb. block, it'll look like you just laid down a few M80's. It is really used more for setting off other explosives or breaching. Then you get into shockwave theory and all. As far as spray bedliner for resistance to bullets, it cannot stop the shock of the round. It must be malleable enough to disperse the energy. Kevlar weave is still the best at this. If you want to make a block wall bullet resistant, when we built ranges in other countries, we'd use kevlar weave layered. You can actually buy it online through specialty fabric stores. We also used this to line our vehicle doors in Afghanistan when we outfitted our Toyota Hilux's. It's lightweight and works at dissipating rounds up to 7.62. Hope that helps. Now I'll go back to learning everything I can from you guys.

Years ago we added a Kevlar to one of our bedliners, had two at the time.
What we knew then it was nothing more then a sex symbol, in all testing it made no difference at all but people loved it and bitched like crazy when we stopped adding it.

You cannot add enough Kevlar to a liquid bed liner to make a difference at all without totally changing the bed liner.

I love these trick explosion tests, in next few months you will see some big ads about how tough, so and so is.

best way to have a bullet proof house is to not piss anyone off that would shoot your ass.

Barry is totally right. I love Shine's comment. Good stuff as always guys.

What about spray a layer of bedliner then roll a layer or two of kevlar weave and then a second coat of bedliner, like a fiberglass lay up? Just curious!
