Need Ideas for paint.

1972GMC

Hi, I'm looking for a little help finding a color for my 1972 GMC pick up. I've looked at so many colors my brain has stopped working for the moment. I'm looking for other peoples thoughts and ideas at this point. Here's whats gone through my head this far. Its a 4x4 I'm doing a 2in lift with 33s and slight rake and a low profile cowl hood to give it a mean look and all the other stuff too grill mirrors ect. At first i was thinking a white pearl but then changed it to red then changed it to candy red then changed it to hok shrimin2 a dark red I bought a little to check it out. I did a spray out in the booth it looked really good, looked even better in the shop had a real almost black sidetone with a bright dark red face loved it! Then took it out in the sun and almost got knocked out by how the pearls popped, it was too much. So now I'm leaning towards a solid dark red base with maybe candy apple over it. But I'm still not sure. What do you think would look good? I finished the engine and the way it came out has set the tone of where this project is heading so i posted that too. Thanks and I appreciate any feedback. And sorry for the dirty garage, I did clean it up lol

what would look good to me or others may not look good to you. its your truck and it would be wise for you to make the decision on what yu think would look good. take someone elses suggestion on what would look good, end up not likin it, and you still have to live with it.
gonna be a nice truck!

Thanks for the replies. I agree with tomsteve 100%. I just have a brain fart and was hoping for some brain storming idea's in hopes someone would say something that would make that light go on and get the old synapses working again lol. And if I can't live with the color I'll probably sell it. I tried the Google thing didn't see anything that caught my eye.

candy over a solid color is a waste. it will do absolutely nothing. candys need to go over a metallic of some sort to be able to see the depth of it.

I saw a local truck like yours that had black lower, silver upper and red stripe in between silver and black. Black was about 4-6 in down from bed rail top. Colors looked nice but bad bodywork was not the awful.

Jim thanks for the feed back. What if you sprayed candy over a very fine metallic would that be a waste?. I like the depth of candy I just don't want it real sparkly.

Joe I've thought about black thats probably going to be my fall back color. I haven't thought about 2 toning it thanks for the post.

72 yes thats fine. it doesnt need to be sparkly. there are pearls and aluminum/metallics that can be coarse or fine but also be more or less sparkly. regular pearls for instance arent sparkly but the xirillic/crystal pearls are. same with aluminum. some are more flat looking and some are made to be reflective.

All you need to do is darken the ground coat on the color you liked until the face tone out in the sun looks the way you like. Don't use black to darken it, just reduce the amount of pearls. If you do a custom color, make sure you keep track of your formula so you can replicate it as needed.
