So I’ve sprayed some SPI epoxy on some suspension parts, a frame and some underbody stuff but have only ever top-coated it with Raptor Liner.
I have a 68 C10 that previous owner painted (he worked at a collision shop) and it is pretty good driver quality but corners were definitely cut (it was not taken down to bare metal-paint was applied over original color). I welded in a metal patch on one of the outer rockers and am now faced with how to do a decent enough looking paint repair, which is in the door jamb area and not visible on outside with door closed (picture below)
I have the paint code and will be picking up some Chromabase because it is easily available locally and I will be getting some SPI clear. I sanded the area and have some bare metal showing where the repair was made and feathered it out into the base and clear. What is the best course of action on the approach to “blending” the repaired area? Will the base “stick to” the existing clear (which has turned white in areas of sanding as I imagine I sanded through)?
This is a truck so if it doesn’t look perfect I’ll just call it “patina” but I’m trying to learn a little bit here because I’ve only ever done whole, individual parts, where there wasn’t a concern about thinks matching. Any tips you can provide would be helpful.
