Not over yet but Thank You all

Yesterday after a couple of years of asking all kinds of silly monotonous questions I finally laid down my first 2 coats of base.

Its No Mix Low VOC base by Transtar, code PB5. Used my new Iwata gun which rocks compared to all the cheap guns I have used before.

I put on 2 coats and was amazed at how well it covered. If not for some striping on m
the roof and hood I could go to clear. I still have a couple of cans so I am going to scuff this morning and shoot a few more. I'll start on my Universal clear tomorrow

Only one question, would a grey pad be suitable for scuffing or would sanding marks show through

Here it is: 2ndcoat1.jpg

Its a 2hour recoat window when activated. It's not really flat like glass but I would not call it orange peel either. Put some water on a panel a few minutes ago and it looks real nice wet. Think I will go into town and get some 1200 or 1500 and wet sand as per Barry's instructions in "the perfect paintjob"

silly monotonous questions help everybody. That's going to look really nice with clear on it.

Thanks Bob, here's another silly one then! If the Transtar no mix low voc base has a 2 hour recoat window does this mean I need to get the clear on within that window as well. Its universal clear

it SHOULD say somewhere in the sheet that you either need to clear in the window or scuff and RE-APPLY base.

Anytime i know i'm not going to get clear on in the same day (which is usually all the time LOL) i only go with 2 coats to get even coverage on first day. come in the next morning, nib any trash...shoot 2 more coats then wait a few hours then clear. Some guys seem to think they need to rush and get it all done in one day...usually ends up bad. Dont be afraid of that recoat window, as long as more base has been laid down soon before clear it will be alright.

Really is a nice color, btw. I did a nova with that color a few months back......love it! A jobber in the area has started carrying the no-mix...i'm interested in trying it but havent seen enough of it to make my deciscion. Seems like it is working great for you!

Well Saturday night and its 8pm. i am done for the night. I managed 2 more coats today of base. Really played around with the gun settings and ended up way different than previous. I waited a couple of hours, mopped the booth and changed all my filters and proceeded to shoot 2 coats of UV clear. First time shooting it and all I can say is wow. LPH 400 1.4 with the silver cap. Laid on pretty good I think. Tomorrow I can pull it out into the sun.

I have surgery on Monday so next week I can get back at it. Here is a close up of the fender with the 2 coatsIMG_2555.jpg

Universal clear and wow are words heard often, looks like it went on well!
