Orange peel

I have orange peel in my new clear coat, what caused it and how to get rid of and stop it the next time, only painted cab so far

What we really need: Clear, speed of activator, temp in garage, size of compressor (HP and Tank size)
Type of gun and tip size.

Popular starting points for this problem:
Tip not a 1.4.
Air pressure at wall is not at least 120#
Air pressure at gun is to low with trigger pulled, normally depending on gun and cap size 24-34.
Gun fluid adjustment to far out 2-3 turns out depending on tip size.
If your a new painter, not holding newer type guns 5-6 inches from panel.
Internal gun strainer is still in gun.

Give us info and we can fine tune you from here.

I used the universal clear with slow activator, room temp at 70, compressor 125, 28 at the gun, using a ATD 1.4 gun, fluid was adjust to barely move trigger, fan adjustment full

If 28 at gun was with the trigger pulled, you are in good shape except the fluid adjustment, the ATD can do the job just fine if hole in top is open and you are holding gun at 5-6 inches from panel.and a 50% over lap. Based on ifo given this is the best I can come up with, a picture is worth a 1000 words because your idea of orange peal might be my idea of dry spray, they can look alike to a point.

Did you leave a fan running after you sprayed? That causes peeling because the outer shell hardens and the solvents underneath are fighting to get out.
Also need to consider if the base was fully evaporated.

We have run all those numbers with slow activator at 75 degrees and still gotten dry spray. Went to the extra slow and it helped. In our environment it seems that not only temperature but humidity is part of the equation. There are alot of clears out there that go 4:1:1 part reducer that they claim makes it flow better in the conditions we spray in. Its never been recommended by anyone at this site with universal clear so we never tried it. The retarder was suggested so we were gonna try that next. Last time he sprayed universal on the collision fender over the wanda our anodizing line was off and the humidity was down and it came out perfect.
