Paint gets soft when warm

Do not create extra work for yourself.

9 months means nothing if sat inside.

I have no clue how much outside exposure the car has had so why not give it seven full days of sun just to see what happens?

It's had a quite a bit of time outside already, from the begining of sept of last year till the first week in nov I pulled it outside pretty much every day the sun was shining, I did the same thing this year from the end of march till now. We haven't had too many hot days yet but even on the not so hot days the paint felt very warm when sitting in the sun, I even move the car around during the day when it was sitting in the sun just to make sure it had full sun exposure. I will give it another week or so in the sun, if I don't see improvement I will probably end up stripping it. I had the mirrors off of the car when painted, they have much less paint on them than the rest of the car and that paint feels about the same as the rest of the car.

Yeah, sounds like clear issue if been in sun that long.

yep if there are alot of trapped solvents then it could take awhile in the sun. i agree with shine to give it the better part of this summer and see how it looks. leave in in the summer sun to cook everyday.

Yeah, I've done a lot of painting over the years and have never had an issue like this. Thank you

last resort before starting over. break the surface with 3000 or so then put it in the sun. it's solvents trapped most likely .
even soft it may not be gassing off enough.

tried that on the header panel, wet sanded with 1500 then let it sit in full sun for 3 days, temps were in the low to mid 80's, still soft.

If rags wipe it off, the clear is bad for sure
So last night I took a laquer thinner soaked rag and held it on to one of the mirrors for about 20 seconds, I could scratch the clear off easily, it actually kinda turned the clear into a jelly like substance.

I screwed up I looked at it as 3 and 3 duh!

So I stripped off the paint that wouldn't cure and used the SPI universal clear for the first time, oh wow....I love that stuff! I'd have to say that it's the best clear I've ever used, sprays easy and looks great. Painted it sunday night, and it's already harder than the old clear that was sprayed almost a year ago. How long should I wait to sand and buff?

The longer the better, Universal Clear is meant to stay buffable pretty much forever. In production work we feel pretty good if we can wait a couple days, hopefully with sun exposure. A week in the summertime is a pretty good long while if the job was done right, imo.
