paint storage

I have a gallon of base, kind of silver meatalic. I have a truck that I will jamb then reassemble to paint.
is it better to shake the gallon then break it down into quarts for easier usage or should I just work out of the gallon can

I would mix thoroughly , then split into qts.

if you want the color to match mix extremely well then put in qrts . when you mix a qrt use some reducer to rinse the can and reduce your base with it. i try to get every drop out .
