painting over powder coat

hey all. my subframe is powder coated a flat black. next week i am modifying the shock mounts to a true coilover system and will be cutting and welding. can i scuff the surrounding areas shoot epocy and topcoat with spi ss flat black?

I've done that before without problems on a powder coated race car chassis. After repairs/welding (lots of damage:() I feather edged the powder coat, spot primed, sanded, scuffed and usually blended into what was left of the good areas.
 
I have always recommended 180 for sanding powder coat BUT I had a guy tell me a few weeks ago that he has done a number of powder coat jobs and he sands with 320 and shoots epoxy.
