Plastic or paper?

I started spraying jambs and have more trash in finish than I'm willing to accept. I used the coated brown paper to mask. I've read about and cleaned the shop, hose, used a paint suit etc... I'm wondering if trash is from my masking paper? What do you pros like to use? How about the plastic stuf?

I am not a "pro" however I have found that most often I use a combination of paper and plastic. First off I use the green masking paper in 6" and 12" for smaller areas. I also use the Norton Blue Sheeting for larger areas. It is treated on one side so that paint adheres to it.
One thing to remember is that when tacking off the car you need to tack the paper as well just to be sure dust hasn't settled there to be kicked up when spraying.

That is the same system I use. I found the brown paper to be "dirty" and no longer use it.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to take pictures, but they didn't show the dirt very well. I think I'll get some of the plastic and see how that works.

I use to use green paper, until i tried the norton white, I started getting a lot less dirt when I went to the better paper, I now only use the green for primer.

Is there any advantages or disadvantages to paper vs plastic?

I don't like plastic right next to where I'm painting,
paint tends to flake off of it.
I paper around the area a foot or so for overspray,
then plastic over the rest of the car

Good to know. I'll order some of the Norton White and give it a try. Thanks.

I also have a customer of mine that uses the spray mask stuff, he loves it, he sprayes the car when it comes in the shop and doesn't have to cover it nor does he have to worry about getting any over spray or anything on it while in the shop, since he does spot priming in the shop.

when the car is finished, he rinses it off.
He claims paint jobs are cleaner after using it.

Yeah, I've seen that stuff but haven't used it. At this point I think I'll get some of the white paper as the engine bay is still bare metal. Not able to use water around that.
