Trying to be the best me, I can be
Just to outline what I do, I first tape sticky side up, then try to gently lay the plastic over the tape. Not trying to tack it down yet. Then I take a razor blade and go over the plastic on the tape lightly with the razor blade, being careful to only cut the plastic not the tape. I try to cut in the center of the tape. Then pull the tape back over on itself. Key to it is to slice the plastic where it's on the tape and not the tape itself. Then pull the plastic back on itself. Use a sharp razor blade. I've tried Exacto knives but they are usually too sharp and I end up cutting through both the plastic and tape in places. When I trim the excess, there's still maybe a 1/4" to 1/2" of loose tape left if I can't get the razor blade right along the tape. I was putting tape along the outside edge as well to hold this little loose flat down so it doesn't get in the paint when spraying. How do you treat this part of it?
Hope that makes sense. It's actually pretty easy to do once you figure it out.
