I am installing a custom fiberglass hood scoop onto a fiberglass hood and I could use some help with how to finish it so that the seams do not show through the paint later.
I already cut the hole in the hood and bonded the scoop in place using 3m panel bond 8115. I had to use several screws to secure the scoop in place while bonding. My next step will be to sand down the adhesive and then put a layer of fiberglass mat on the backside of the hood.
BUT, where do i go from there concerning the top side of the hood? I read an article recently about installing new quarter panels on a midyear Corvette. They sanded the area around and on the seam with a 40 grit disc, then applied one layer of fiberglass mat, and then applied a coating of mar-glass filler. They did not mention anything about sanding on the fiberglass before applying the mar-glass filler. Is this the best procedure?
Thanks in advance for the help!!!
