Question on cut and buff single stage

I’ve never cut and buffed a single stage, so how long should I wait until doing so, and is it possible I can first sand with my leveling grit, such as 1000 or 1200 while it’s still soft and come back later to finish, or does it make it more of a bear to remove the 1200 later?

I figure for cutting peel down it’s easiest to do that while still soft.

My process has been hand sanding (wet) starting at 1000 or 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, Trizact 3000. I hate it though and it gives me carpal tunnel.

Treat it like you would a clear coat. SPI SS sets up faster than Universal so you can sand it next day. It does get harder than Universal and harder to buff the longer you wait but nothing too extreme. As for sanding some now and waiting, shouldn't make a difference. Where you will notice it is with buffing. It gets a little harder to buff the longer it sets up. But it's not like the el cheapo rock hard clears. Still very buffable, just will have to work a little harder. Wool pad will make a big difference.

I give it a couple of days to harden, otherwise if it’s too soft you will get pigtails, assuming you are using a DA. If not, never mind… :)

3D ACA 510 on their yellow wool pad works very well. Cuts it like buttah! :)

I’m hand sanding right now. Why the 500 and not the 510?
