REG 2 K set-up FAAAAAST!

I mixed 8 oz of reg 2k and 2 oz activator garage was 72 degrees.I put on 2 coats on my trunk lid and waited 15 minutes when i went back in the primer was like thick jelly in my gun.Had to spoon it out and it took me a while before i got mt gun clean.What Happened?
 
setting in a gun it will kick. it's not lacquer . never mix more than you need and rinse the cup between fills.
 
I usually try to keep a couple of odd ball items around that can use a squirt of primer. I tack them off and set them aside when I'm shooting 2k and if I end up with a little paint left over, I dust the spare parts rather than waste the primer.
 
Activator was not mixed in with a paint stick, put in the gun and shook. WILL not work!
Activator was eye balled instead of measured.
Activator was not mixed long enough to mix in equally.
Painter lost track of time, with phone call or customer interruping.

Bottom line is this at 70 degrees if all done right you have a safe 45 minutes, to get it out of the gun.

Didnt use polar.I will watch the clock next time.Ive been doing this for 20 years i dont think i made a mistake 4 to 1 is the same as 8 to 2.right?This was a deck lid that had 3 coats of black SPI epoxy.Ill try again!
 
You said you sprayed 2 coats and it sounds like you were going for a 3rd all from the same batch, is that right? If so that's definitely pushing it. I assume (hope) you were giving about 20 minutes flash time between those coats, and if so you would've been pushing 40-45 minutes on that pot life going into your 3rd. That's a recipe for jelly. I only mix enough for 2 coats and then the leftover is cleaned out immediately after the 2nd coat.
 
yeah the reg 2k is fast but not that fast. its easy to not realize how much time goes by once you mix and do a couple few coats including flash. time flies when you havin fun :)

I mixed up 10 ounces for three coats.I spray primer WET!
