I poasted a question about using SPI intercoat in place ofPPG DBC 500 to thin colors for a deeper look. I did two things;

1. mixed 1:10 PPG DBC 9700 (nice deep black) with SPI intercoat, added a little activator, reduced 50% with medium reducer and used it to tint tail light and headlight lenses. Followed up with two wet coats universal clear. Prep was careful degreasing and wetsanding starting with 400 and ending with 1000. they look great - optically clear, easy to get color even, laid down nice, etc...

2. Mixed 1:5 PPG DBC 9700 with SPI intercoat,, added a heaping teaspoon of large grain silver sparkle pearl per quart, some activator (1 oz per quart after reduced) reduced 50% with medium reducer. Shot one coat DPC9700 over black epoxy primer for even color, then 3 wet coats of the black/clear/pearl mix, followed by 4 wet coats universal clear spaced 30 min apart. after hardening a few days in the sun, block sanded and buffed it out with meguires diamondcut 85 and a foam pad... came out great. deep, deep black that has sparkle down in it especially when the sun hits it full on. I did side by side with some leftover dbc500 and it looks the same to my somewhat untrained eye.

Hope this is helpful
