Sandblasting grits

I have borrowed a sandblaster and have access to a high CFM compressor. I also was told about a plant locally that sells "Black Beauty" coal slag pretty cheap in 100# bags. I will be blasting the frame of my 1949 3800 Chevy truck. I also plan to blast the seams/grooves/hard to sand places on the cab and smaller parts.

I have sandblasted before, but never had to make the decision on what grit to use, just to "have at it". My question would be what grits/media would be best to blast:
frame?
cab and other body components?
Would the Black Beauty work, or is it a waste of money for my application?

Thanks!

it is very aggressive . around 7.5 on the moh scale. ok for the frame but i would never use it on a body. starblast is a little more forgiving around 6.0 , crushed glass is 5.0. just use very little pressure and stay at 45 degrees of the panel .

Shine, for the body, what would you recommend as a media? The crushed glass? Or is there something better? And approximately how much of the coal slag would you anticipate needing to blast a one ton truck frame with a user who hasn't done any blasting in a decade? 1000#?

get a big tarp and blast on it so you can reclaim the media. on ammount it just depends on how it's done. 5-10 bags will easily do it . the crushed glass would be ok for both .
