My work decided to buy us some spray guns. I got to pick. Got a pair of sata 5500's 1.3I and 1.4O. Also got the 3m performance plastic gun. I picked these as none of the 3 painters have them.

I did my first job with them Thursday. Used the 1.3I for waterborne base and the 1.4O for clear. The 1.4O is not as fast as I thought it would be. Sprayed wide open 31 psi. I think material consumption is lower than the iwata ws400. Going to try the I cap for clear next time.

One of the other painters used the 3m gun for everything including clear. Turned out good. It's an impressive gun. It is extremely lite. I used it for primer.

The 3M Performance spray gun is in my opinion--way underrated in this country--abroad it is a better market for them. I've liked them since they first came out. The differing concept with disposable one-piece front end never seemed too much of a poor value for how much use they can provide. Well balanced with their 2.0 PPS for me in comparison to any SATA gravity fed. I use a SATA pressure fed and like that way better than their gravity guns and large cups. You are right--they are light weight and a joy with changing out for multiple product applications. Try it for clear yourself--can lay it out like glass.

Just ordered some 1.4 of the RP 3m heads. This should make that gun even better. Thanks for the heads up!

The 1.4o not being as fast as you thought…is it an RP or HVLP?

Both guns are RP's.

I like to spray close and fast. I will start fast and slow down to adjust to the gun. Or adjust the gun to spray fast. The sata 5500 is better than the 5000 at close range. I'm only after factory peel. I have a method so I can bake and not worry about solvent pop.

I will make a video one of these days. Will have to be when doing parts.
