Sata RP digital 2 1.3 for base, pearls, metallics? thoughts?

I use an iwata 400 lph 1.4 for clears and currently use nr 2000 1.3 hvlp for basecoats. I have a pretty much brand new Sata RP digital 2 1.3 that I originally bought for clears but I prefer the Iwata. My question is has anyone used the Sata RP 1.3 for basecoats? Wandering if it would be better for metallics or pearls than my NR 2000 with 1.3 tip? Any recommendation for air pressure on the RP shooting metallic basecoats for a starting point? I currently run the nr 2000 at 26 psi.I do have a tendency for slight tiger striping with metallics like platinum silver. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

consider adding some color blender to your base? or put down a wet bed of color blender first?

I'm ready to "pull the trigger" on a new RP digital myself and would like to hear some feedback also. Like you, I'm thinking this will be my dedicated base gun and leave my lph 400 for clear. I have some metallic jobs coming up and the found it very difficult to shoot silver with my 400 and am hoping the RP will be better.

Consider a new Sata 4000 hvlp? It seems that the hvlp guns are preferred for base coat, while the rp is preferred for clear

I use a 2000 RP for clear with a 1.4 tip and another for solid colors with a 1.4. For metallic/pearl colors, I usually a 3000 RP with a 1.2. I have to turn the 1.4 waaaaaayyyyy down to spray silvers and fine pearls without striping or modeling. The 1.2 seems to be much easier to work with, but I never drop coat anything. Alternating direction of each coat will help with striping also. That is just my preference and experience, take it for what its worth.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of trying the purple cap for the Iwata for metallic bases. Seems the RP with the 1.3 tip should probably stay a clear coat gun.

How much color blender would you add to the rts base?
