First time painting a car and I'm 78 with a problem forgetting things. I mixed the clear coat wrong did a 4-1 mix instead of 1-1. Why? I don't know 4-1 just stuck in my mind. I laid down 4 coats and it turned out dam good. I was surprised. Later that evening it came to me about the 4-1 mix.

Tried wiping it off with thinner/reducter no go. Any idea what my next step is or how to correct it? Should I put it out in the sun with hope it would get hard enough to sand? Take a DA to it till I reach seal coat.? I'm lost. (I did try to sand dow part of the nose section where I had a run....)

Sorry to hear everyone at SPI is down with Covid. Hope they had their shots

If I knew how to attach picture I would.

I did talked to Barry but I believe he may have caught Covid from his fellow workers. When I spoke to him (as I have many times for help) Our line went dead. Hasn't gotten back to me yet. I did just move the body out in the sunlight and hope it will help. Still don't know what to do next????

I'm no expert but I think letting it sit in the sun for a couple of days is the best approach. The activator should still do it's job but with such a high solids clear mix, it may take a couple of days.

Barry will let you know what to do. Sorry that I wasn't more help, but I don't have any experience with an issue like this.

I'm sorry I know we were texting a lot.
Kinda strange mixed 4.1 and it's not washing off.
After 4 or 5 days of full sun let's see how it feels to you.
Not perfect but if it hardens maybe your done. It will be your call.

4-1 mix is strange. For some reasons I just am not thinking right. First coat was 1-1 then went to ? and then on the last 2 coats 4-1. Wasn't till two days later laying in bed I started to wonder about the mix. Then I looked at my mixing cups and saw what I did. I will admit it this isn't the first time I hadn't been thinking straight or wondering where I put things. On the car I had it outside in the sun for about a week or longer. Then I left it alone in the unheated garage for a while. I took a buffer to the UC to see if I could buff it down. Seems to buff out OK and looks fine and not as soft. I think I might start sanding and see how it comes out. Any thoughts besides thinking I'm a idiot?

I'm sorry to hear your having memory issues. It's an unfortunate part of life it seems.

With that said, it must be my lucky day because apparently you've forgotten about the 10k dollars I owe you :)

Don't be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes. One thing I would do is to keep it out in the sunlight as much as you can. Even in the cooler weather the UV light will help with the cure of the clear.

The last I sent to you was under-activated it will NEVER fully cure, and will have a shorter life and pour chemical resistance.
I also said the sun is the best thing and after 7 or more days if it meets your expectations leave it.

Great color. Glacier blue? I have a red 58 myself.

Know you very well by your AKA aviator8 on MGE. I had a devil of a time find the correct GBlue. After coming across a first time owner of a GB58 1500 I talked him into having his MG scanned. Still the paint jobber got it wrong. After working with me found out the correct color that matched. It was a 2014 Lamborghini Turchese Lagoon. I did straighten out my screw up with the clear coat and the paint came out like a $20,000 job. But I did burn thru a couple small spots on the shelf by the Master clyiner and wiper motor. That and in the groove on the body for the bonnet. Talked to Berry and he pointed me to the blending solvent. Now to work up my nerve and hope I cane remember what I'm doing.

I've had some goofs on my current project and Barry and members here helped me work through them, You'll be fine.
