Sealing seams

I hope some of you are up to a discussion on sealing seams, such as the bottom of doors, 1/4 panels, and anywhere else that is low enough for water to get trapped.

I've been thinking about all the rusty old Chevys that I have owned, looked at, worked on, or torn apart for parts, and what I've found is that the worst rust is in the area above the seam. The seam its self appears to disintegrate later.

So I'm wondering if we aren't putting too much emphasis on the seam and not enough on the area above the seam, and keeping the drain holes clean. Any thoughts?

The Trans Am I just put door skins on rusted from the seam up, but it didn't reach the drains. I'm assuming water settled in the bottom but couldn't reach the drains, then rusted from there. Seems to me that the drains are up a little too high.

Thats what I have found also, its like the rust seals off the seams from any further rusting, and yes the drains are not in the lowest spot.

I had been told to flood the seams with epoxy for the best prevention of future rust. Sounds like a solid plan.
