Snow Flakes in Universal with Flattening Agent

D

deadchane

I am getting small white specs (snow flakes) in my universal clear. The universal is mixed with normal activator and SPI flattening agent 1:1:1 It's mixed thoroughly and I am also double straining it before it goes in the gun.

I spoke with Barry on this problem and he suggested that I reduce my air pressure at the gun. I followed his recommendation however, I still achieved the same results -flakes.

I'm spraying with a Sata Mini Jet 1.0MM at 75 degrees and have tested (with trigger pulled) air pressure anywhere from 15 - 25lbs all with no luck.

Any suggestions are appreciated...

That much air is too much for a touch up gun, needs lowered a few pounds.
Staining will not work or have anything to do with it, as what is happening is the excessive air is drying the solvent around the flake.

Is this the new product or the older paste product? I heard there was a new version of the flattener...

Yes, this is the new version of the flattener -the one that is more liquid.

I have used both the old flattener (pastey) and the new one with success -except in this particular instance.

I will report back the next time I spray it from the mini gun with reduced air pressure.

Thanks for the input!
