Trying to be the best me, I can be
Clever title huh? I was contacted by Dan of Touring Car Inc. in the Charlotte NC area back in January about painting a Porsche 911 he had. It's an 83 911 SC in Quartz Grey. Fairly straight but tired paint. Drove down to Dan's Shop in Matthew's NC on Tuesday to pick it up. Dan gave me a Shop tour while I was there and had a lot of interesting German cars there in various conditions. Got to meet his employees who seemed like a great bunch of guys, as well as his two Shop dogs.
Got it loaded up and made the trek back to VA Arrived home in one piece and will be starting on it soon. I plan to not be so lazy this time and do a proper thread on it.
Plan is to R&I everything on the exterior, pull all the glass, pull the fenders, repair some minor crash damage from years ago then strip the exterior to metal. All the seals will be replaced as well. Dan was specific in saying that he wanted to minimize any filler used and didn't want any filler used in a couple of places. So I plan to metal finish as much as possible. I will be repainting it in its original color Quartz Gray which was a one year only color for the SC and fairly rare. I will be using Glasurit 55 basecoat as well as Universal Clear and of course SPI Epoxy. I plan to only use Epoxy. No 2K or poly primer on this one. And of course I plan to cut and buff.
I also will be replacing the dash and redoing the Headliner myself. Should be a fun job. Currently finishing up my albatross of an MG for fellow Forum member MikeGee (sorry Mike) so I hope to start on this one in a week or so.
And thanks to Barry for letting me use him as a reference. I will try to not let you down.

I will post more when I start on it.
