Speed blaster media

Im going to pick up a handheld speed blaster real quick and was wondering what type of media should I get to remove paint and very light surface rust. My main use is to get this in areas that I cannont sand obviously so what grit/media should I use to get a "ready to epoxy" finish. Thanks!

We use extra fine recycled crushed glass. Leaves a nice clean white surface for straight to epoxy application.

I did some searching for fine glass media, only found a medium glass, do you have a place you get it from?? Just curious too, the description on the medium says it leave a smooth finish... im new to sand blasting, but since SPI epoxy asks for a 80 grit scratches for proper adhesion, "smooth" does not sound right to me.. but like i said maybe smooth, is 80 grit rough...?

I'm new here so maybe someone else will reply. the crushed glass will leave a nice metal profile for the epoxy to stick to. glass bead leaves a smooth surface that would still need to be sanded

If you have a Tractor Supply near you they sell blasting grit, get the 40/80 only, anything else is way to course.

Yea i do, I'll check with them today, my speedblaster should bed here Thursday... And its crushed glass they sell?

Sorry, I was referring to blasting sand, it works ok in a spot blaster if its the fine 40/80. They also sell buckets of other abrasives for use in cabinets, check it out your store may carry something different.

I cant seem to find the crushed glass anywhere in town. Of course I can order it but do any other media leave a "ready to epoxy" finish? Also I dont have a lot to strip left but I think it might be easier to "blast" my cowl panel since it has hundreds of small air holes in it... my question how far does a 10lb bag go?

That black sand is made for blasting.....it leaves the perfect tooth for epoxy, try it, it's cheap at 8.00 a bag.
They have garnet abrasive also in buckets, but its 25.00 better suited for reclaiming in a cabinet but would work fine in a spot blaster.

If you are just blasting little spots (ie: spot welds) it will last plenty, but an allover blast on a cowl,i t will go very fast!

I found some! 30-70 grit, at northern tool supply here in town. There fairly new so I forgot about them. Before I go grab a bag tomorrow, is this what im looking for 30-70 grit?

I might grab a bag of the black diamond sand also, just incase

Couldn't remember the brand, that is the same stuff Tractor supply sells, although I much prefer the 40/80 grit for automotive work. For the price and local availability, I would use the crushed glass also!

Yea 9.99 for a 50lb bag does not seem bad to me at all. Hopefully my speed blaster arrives tomorrow so I can get crackin. I skipped the black sand, ill see how this bag works first. Im thinking that ill only use half the bag for this project. Basically some door jamb areas, some body lines, drip rails and a few tight corners here and there. Not much. If I get the hood and roof stripped tonight I might be ready for epoxy this weekend!!
