Static electricty

While working on this fiberglass bed cover, getting ready to spray the poly primer, I was tacking it off and could tell that it had a lot of static on it. I went over it with some waterborne w/g remover and let it sit for 30 minutes and the static was gone. The waterborne worked great. When I get to base, I probably will tack off between coats. What should I do if the static comes back at that point in the process? Thanks, Russ

Nothing you can really do, first time you tack you will create static and every time you spray a coat more will be created.

What I figured out years ago is the glass can be grounded to a grounding rod but it takes 24 to 48 hours to work where metal is in seconds.

Guess you could mist with alcohol between base and first coat of clear.

Thanks Barry. I will try the grounding trick. This may be a silly question but will the static affect how the paint goes onto the panel?

Only metallic due to different charge. Just like a fast reducer will make the metallic not blend as well.
