Stitch weld sealing

I'm installing a trunk patch and am butt welding sheetmetal in a rather difficult to reach area. This weld will be deep in the trunk and eventually covered by textured spatter trunk paint.

If I had good access I would be able to carefully grind off the weld bulge and reweld the gaps to get a solid seam but in this case being tough to access I am worried about grinding off too much and/or burning thru too many places. What I would like to do it is get it welded 95% solid where some pinholes of light can be seen thru, grind most of if off stopping just short of flush, clean and epoxy prime it then using a filler to smooth the work area and close off any residual holes that the epoxy doesn't fill itself.

Is regular body filler the best to use here considering the steel will be sealed by epoxy and the filler sealed covered with epoxy as well?

we were in the same boat, just got the flowing seam sealer from the top, went to the bottom to see where it came thru to run some stiff stuff underneath. Gotta keep trying something til you find what works.
