this may be a stupid question but....

I have a couple of rock chips I'd like to repair. When painted originally it was Barry's black base and UV clear. What I was wondering was; could I possibly mix base and clear(and mabey a splash of blender) and apply to chips with a pinstriping brush, then sand and buff out??

Like I said maybe a stupid question but just wondering. I figured maybe adding some blender may possibly help the edges burn in, but, once again not sure, I figured if anyone had the answer it'd be here.

What about just getting some single stage black and touching it up with that? Someone could probably send you a small amount for little to nothing.

brush some base in the chip and let it dry, then use a little of acc clear to brush over it. in a few days you can sand and polish it. once done you'll be hard pressed to find it . i have brushed touched cars that i painted 25 years ago .

Excellent. Thanks shine. I'd assume by acc clear you are saying activated?

The blender won't help, blender doesn't burn anything in. The only thing blender is for is melting the dryspray on a blend edge. As shine said just apply enough color to the bottom of the chip for coverage then build up the clear, allow to cure and sand and buff. You'll usually still see the repair but if done right it won't be real noticeable. Singlestage solid colors have a big advantage for chip repairs especially if it's a bright color.

Over the years i have done this many times and the real trick is dab base and walk away, dab more over next few days, 2000 with finger if needed and then start same process with clear, dab a little every hour or two until its just higher the the surrounding clear. 2000 and buff. never see it after done.

As a mobile touch upper, I had equal amount of clear to the base. I adds gloss and fills chip pretty well. Most colors you'd be hard pressed to find it. Far from perfect for sure.
