Treat Pits before Epoxing

This has been probably covered a few times but I'm doing my under carriage and plan on shooting with rex oxide expoxy. Some spots I will not get to as well as others - especially where I have some pitting. Before shooting epoxy and after sanding whats the best was way to ensure no rust in pits that could cause problems later. Blasting is not a good option for me. Got a baster but not relishing the idea of being on my back sanding blasting. thanks in advance for any advice.

Where at in IN are you, I have supplied air sandblast hood you can borrow if you're close to 60462? Blasting on your back wont be a problem then....LOL!

Welcome to the Forum, Palerider.

I would guess you are not getting a lot of responses on this, because blasting is probably the only good way to clean pitted metal. On something like a gear box, I use a knotted wire wheel. This alone leaves a smooth surface - not good for primer adhesion. Then I use a mini-grinder and a DA where I can to scratch up the surface. Blasting is way better, if at all possible.

I'm in valparaiso in - 50 miles east of chicago. I seen that rust encapsulato should not be used - was hoping there was some type of metal treat you could spray on that might be compatible.

May have to bite the bullit and blast. Since I did full floors replacement not much to do anyway. Just getting lazy in my old age.

spi epoxy helps inhibit rust because it has zinc in it correct? but not good enough, if there were missed prep spots in pits, it may bubble later?
