TriCoat Question

When painting the tri-coat system after putting down the base coat you move onto the 2nd step which is painting the base/clear/pearl mixture. Do you add hardener to this base/clear/pearl mixture or just spray it as is? The 3rd step is the clear coat which does have a hardener. Im just not sure if I add hardener to the second step. thanks Paul

Depends on the system, most OEM colors that are tri coat are base ground coat, base mid coat then catalyzed clear coat. Some of the newer tri coats and the original House of Kolor Kandy tri coats use a base coat, then a catalyzed mid coat candy (tinted clear) then the catalyzed clear. So it's 2 ways to get the similar result,

I am using Omni MBP Tri Coat system and I couldn't find the information on it. I second part after the initial base coat is a mixture of base and clear so maybe I have to ad catalyst thank you

I don't know the Omni system, but if it's the same clear as the clear coat, then yes you will need to catalyze, if it's a clear base coat, then no. Whats the part number of the clear in question?

I've used a lot of it in collision repair in years past. You can activate it, won't hurt anything. The midcoat is clear basecoat binder with pearl or candy dye (depending on the midcoat color/shade of course) . Essentially no different than activating basecoat. Maximum 1 oz per 32 oz RTS (ready to spray)
