Turbo, or epoxy first ?

Getting ready to wrap this bed cover project up in the next few weeks. The underside of the lid has been epoxied, and poly primed. It has been sanded in 180 and I was wanting to coat it with about 3 coats of turbo and see how it sands out. The final topcoat will be 2 coats of black epoxy.

I do have some spots of filler that I applied and I have sanded down to the fiberglass in some spots, My question is : I believe I can go straight to turbo instead of epoxy first. Is this correct? Thanks, Russ

you will be ok going straight to turbo BUT its always a plus to do a sealer coat of epoxy first.

I can see leaving black epoxy as the topcoat when you are not doing all these steps, but when you are doing all this blocking and priming and sanding why not use a polyurethane that is made to be a topcoat?

I may do that. I don't have anything on hand at the moment. I did put some epoxy down and got it too wet in a few spots. What the finest grit I can sand with before using the turbo. Thanks Russ

If you are going to sand the epoxy I'd use 320 or 400 but you can go as fine was you want if the epoxy is within it's recoat window

Thanks Bob. I just want to smooth out some imperfections in the epoxy.
