Universal clear question. How much?

Please be patient with me! I have not sprayed an entire car in over 25 years. But it looks like in a couple of weeks 13 years of hard work (off and on with an 8 year hiatus) is finally coming to fruition. My '66 Mustang GT Fastback has finally reached that pinnacle of paint time! Simple question.
My first plan was to shoot it with MS clear. I was going to just buy two one gallon kits (2-3qt's of clear and 2 qts of activator) But I just read that Barry is doing away with the MS, so I thought I'd change up and use the Universal Clear.
With one gallon of clear, and 4 qts of activator (Univ. is mixed 1:1 while MS was 3:1, correct?) how many coats of clear can be applied on a car this size? Considering I have jambs to clear too, should I order two gallons of clear and enough activator?
I want to put enough clear down to be able to do the 400 grit wet sand and work up to the 3000 before final buffing.
Anyone know why the MS is going away??
Planning on placing the order tomorrow.

Hi, congrats on getting your mustang ready to paint.I would think you need two kits of universal. If you plan on sanding clear alot I would definally do 4 coats . It's not uncommon for to me use up 2 1/2 sprayable gal.or more on a overall when doing 4 coats. I generally start wetsanding with 600 and work my way up. You didn't say if you were considering do one paint session or doing 3+3 flow coat. It really depends on how much time you have and want to invest in this paint job. You can get a real beautiful job doing 4 coats and starting with 600 and working it up from there. Good luck and feel free to ask questions there are some very talented people here on the forum who are always willing to help if possible. Joe

starting that aggressively with the 400 I would either do the flow coat process or add a 5th coat on the large flat areas for insurance......
