universal lays out perfect. to buff or not to buff that is the question!

does buffing add a "lustre" or percieved "glow" or would i ruin something good?
does buffing make the surface harder and less prone to scratches?

If you don't have to buff, don't.
Most never get the clear as clear after buffing and some will shrink down a little
afterwards, not buffing will assure it to stay as good looking as it is.
that's the whole advantage of a "flowcoat", it's not a buffed finish, which
is usually preferred.

latest airbrush job i made a point to keep it a smooth as possible (spi intercoat) instaed of my usual relif map, and the parts are small (harley fxr).

If you look very closely at the surface of your clear and can't see any texture, and there's no dirt to remove, I don't think you can gain any gloss by buffing. Just give it a light polish in a month after full cure. Think of buffing as defect removal, think of polishing as perfecting the surface for the ultimate gloss, glazes fill and hide imperfections but are only temporary, waxes also fill and hide surface imperfections (micro scratches) and are for protection but are only temporary. If polished properly you won't need any glaze or wax to add gloss.

after buffing and polishing ive never added wax or anything.
