upgrading my spray gun

Hi Guys -

I'm trying to do a search, but my search skills seem to be lacking today. I'm sure this has been discussed, but for the life of me, can find what I'm looking for. I've been doing my rough spraying with a harbor freight HVLP gun (the purple one) which "seems" to work, given my lack of spraying experience. I'm looking to upgrade to a more professional gun and am wondering what people recommend for SPI products. I'm primarily spraying epoxy right now.

Any advice? Thanks!!

Joe

If you are gonna use one gun for primer, base, and clear I recommend either iwata lph400 with 1.4 or the devilbis teckna that comes with multiple needle/cap setup

either one would be a massive improvement

Epoxy base and clear, lph-400, 2k, slick sand, lph-440, if no dough for the 440 get the 400 and a vaper for the 2k.

I use a astro pneumatics

QUL 1.9 tip for epoxy and hi build ure primer and a Devilbiss Plus for base and clear.

Hi Guys -

thanks for the responses. Can anyone recommend a place to buy an LPH 400? I found a couple of websites, but they looked a little shady and I got the impression from the way the webpage read that there was a little bit of china influence going on there. I want to make sure I get the real thing and not a chinese knock-off. I must have week google-foo lately. thanks guys.

Some might say its over kill but I have 6 guns and each one has its own purpose. 2 sata rp for base. The lph is just for clear and finish-line guns for primers only. At he time once i priced out the larger needles and tips for the sata guns it was a split to buying a cheap finish line gun with the tip I wanted. Now many years later I find it has become convenient to just grab the gun I need pending on what im spraying and not worry about did I get it clean enough when going from primer to base color.

here is a link to a lph-400lv 5550 series remember all 5550 series come with no cup. https://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=IWA5550 a vaper 1000ml can be found for around $15 to $20 bucks. also look at the sata guns too. depends on the amount of spraying you will be doing.

unless you are a production shop an iwata for primer is a waste. you can pick up a viper 2.3 for 45 bucks from northerntools. put your money into a base / clear gun .
