WANTED: Right Door, 1969 Mercury Montego 2DR Hardtop

Combo Man & Mod
As the title says, I'm looking for a '69 Montego 2 door hardtop. Also handy would be confirmation of other models possibly having the same door. Known compatible is the 1969 Comet, and possible compatibles are '68 models of Comet and Montego. But I am wondering if the '68-69 Fairlane would work, possibly with molding hole welding. Any leads appreciated!

The Montego and Fairlane door will interchange from 68-69. If Don's link doesn't pan out car-part.com has some Fairlane 2dr hardtop doors listed. Most out west so it would be closer to you. I think the Torino doors are the same as well.

parts car, make offer. Get Jim to go get it for you.. :p

I have possibly found a door about 400 miles away, it looks pretty rough. If that doesn't work out I will start chasing the other leads you guys have provided.

@Chris_Hamilton , are you 100% on the Fairlane interchange? I could be out 2-way freight if something goes wrong...

There used to be books that the salvage yards used that were called interchange books. If someone had access that might help. Not sure. It's been years.

Yeah, classic cars yards usually invest in a set of old books. The online version does not have info on vehicles of the age being talked about here, though.

I saw several of those cars those being parted out on Facebook Marketplace. You can likely find something closeby if you check there.

AFAIK. It wouldn't hurt to contact a salvage yard and have them check their interchange system. I think the name of the one used by nearly all salvage yards is called Hollander.
Like I said though, AFAIK the two doors are the same with the exception of trim differences.

Crash been a looong time since I fooled with any of the typical late 60's cars. When I was starting out you would see one occasionly. That's what I'm drawing my memories from. I did have a 70 Torino GT back in 1990. Nice car but with bias ply tires it was a little scary. Wish I still had it now.

If nothing else wouldn't hurt to ask this question on one of the specialized Ford/Mercury forums. Im pretty certain but I would hate to be wrong and you be out money.

The Torino and Fairlane are the same body in '69, is that right, guys?

I might have a bead on a Torino door.

The problem with L&L is that they are disorganized and expensive. It is likely they have the door I need, but I dread dealing with them.

This may sound odd but you may join a Ford FE forum. This is Jay Browns Forum : https://fepower.net/simplemachinesforum/index.php
There are others but Jay runs a tight ship and are most of the folks there are very knowledgeable and always willing to help people. You may just have to ask in the NON-FE portion etc.
Many of those cars had the FE Series Engine. Just a thought if it helps.
