Wet sanding question

I applied three coats of SPI single stage black. Wet sanding the orange peel out is gonna take me awhile just starting with 1500 grit. I tested a small hidden area with 600 grit just to get down the high spots. Then go to 1500 then 2000. Is there any reason I should not do this? Otherwise I am in for some hard work. Thanks
By the way Barry, I love the Single stage black. Awesome on my mustang.

I would recommend no coarser than 1000 on a 3 coat job, though others may differ. I sometimes use coarser grits on a run while protecting the surrounding area, but not on a whole job.

I have seen 1500 get gummed up with paint and ruin a paint job too. So many variables to sanding, not everyone pushes as hard or is as consistent over the entire job. You are knocking off the peel and then you are mainly taking out the scratches from each or the coarser grits as you get finer. I would rather get that peel out of the way and just start removing the sanding scratches, maybe you can start with 800.

The jump from 600 to 1500 seems to big for me. You'd need a lot of sanding to erase 600 grit.

Maybe try 800-1200-1500-2000, etc.

Go easy with every step so that you don't end up removing too much material.

on a ss job you really have to watch out. you don't need to cut through to be able to see through the paint in spots. you only need to take a coat-coat and a half off and you'll see right through it. if it were me and I did 3 coats I would 1500 to just lightly take some of the peel out then 3000, 5000 and buff it. I wouldn't even try to get all the peel out. just 1/2 of it and call it a day.

I will stop the idea of 600. I was lightly rubbing the block over the peel just enough to see what I have as far as peel depth. Just seemed like 1500 was going nowhere. I will take the advice. Thanks guys.
